A second generation amylin analog, optimized for the treatment of obesity, is the company’s second lead clinical-stage program in the obesity pipeline. This new drug candidate is being studied as a stand-alone therapy and in combination with other hormones. Its potential for once weekly dosing will also be explored.
About Obesity
Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States, where about 65 percent of adults – some 127 million people – are overweight or obese. Approximately 400 million adults are obese worldwide.
Overweight and obese individuals are at increased risk for more than 30 medical conditions, including heart disease and stroke and some cancers. Obesity is currently associated with about 14 percent of cancer deaths in men and 20 percent in women.
