Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is a major priority at Amylin, and energy, construction, landscaping, and operational practices reflect that commitment.

The company has adopted the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building System validate best practices in energy efficiency, environmentally responsible construction, and optimal working conditions. LEED® certification, issued by the U.S. Green Building Council, has been awarded to two Amylin locations in California and one other is registered for review. Plans are now in development for the registration of Amylin’s new, leading-edge manufacturing facility in Ohio.

Additional steps have recently included planning for installation of photovoltaic panels, adoption of water-wise landscaping, green chemistry, and green janitorial practices. Energy and water conservation efforts at the corporate facility resulted in significant annual savings when compared to previous years. Amylin is certified in meeting the requirements of ISO 14001:2004, the recognized standard in corporate environmental management.

Amylin employees—encouraged by the company’s Green Team—are also doing their part. Through their efforts, more than 285,000 pounds of co-mingled waste, including paper, plastic, aluminum, and electronic materials, were recycled in one year alone. These efforts have resulted in multiple environmental awards including:

  • City of San Diego 2009 Recycler of the Year Award
  • IEA/CMTA/CICC 2008 Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Leadership Award
  • City of San Diego 2008 Climate Protection Champion Award
  • City of San Diego 2008 Director’s Recycling Award
  • SANDAG 2008 Diamond Award
  • Earthworks 2008 V.I.P. Earth Award
